Transport Design

Transport Design

Transportation systems and projects require a precise analysis of the ergonomic and user interaction to provide a full understanding of the needs and requirements, whether for drivers, passengers, young, old, able-bodied, handicapped, service and maintenance personnel, health and safety officers, aircrew, sea-crew or defence personnel.
Medical Device & Scientific Instrument Design

Design plays an increasingly crucial role in the development of successful medical and scientific products.

The questions posed by the purchasing organisation where the investment may be considerable are typically:
  • Will this product perform to specification? Is it easy to operate?
  • Will it provide a good return on our investment?
  • Does it convey the right impression to our customers?
Industrial Product Design

The triggers for the development of industrial (capital goods) may include:
  • Changes in legislation and technology
  • The need for cost reduction (based on alternative materials and production process)
  • Changes in the competitive environment
  • Expectation of enhancement of man/machine interface to decreasing fatigue or increase safety or productivity
  • The sophistication of internal technology reflected in improved style and ergonomics
Consumer Product Design

Consumer product design poses some challenging questions:
  • How can quality be kept high, but unit low cost?
  • How is a global product to be designed? (To meet the differing requirements of each national market)?
  • How can full account be taken of the latest consumer trends and expectations?
  • How can the product be developed fast enough to exploit these new market opportunities?
Architecture & Building Component Design

The commissioning of Architecture and specification of building components by private and public sector clients typically requires environmental spaces and products to meet the following specifications:
  • Functionality
  • Elegant construction
  • Quality materials and craftsmanship
  • Co-ordinated product ranges that provide design continuity
  • Sustainability

Sadler Associates task is to integrate the user needs with those in the transport system and its environments. A fine balance often has to be struck between the apparent conflicting requirements of comfort, quality, safety, reliability and cost.

Our reputation for the integration of 'user friendliness' within high technology projects has resulted in past commissions to develop further advanced products, such as user interface for a flight simulator and a computer-based public transport route planner.

Over the years, we have undertaken many commissions for clients in the aerospace, defence, road and rail transport fields including both public and private projects.
Work for Ford of Europe has also involved us in the development of ergonomic publications and equipment for the selection of the correct vehicles within the product range. The development of promotional material, handbooks, exhibition and demonstration prototypes has been completed to publicise new transport projects throughout Europe.
